FAQ · BYOK and charges

Before using Maestro

The app uses API keys owned by the user. Your Maestro license and your provider usage are separate relationships.

01

What does BYOK mean?

BYOK means “bring your own key.” You create a key in your AI provider account and add it to Maestro. The app does not create the account, sell the key, or intermediate provider billing.

02

Does buying Maestro include AI credits?

No. API credits, free quotas, and subscriptions belong to your provider account. Maestro’s price does not include OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Kimi, or DeepSeek usage.

03

Can providers charge me?

Yes. A review, key validation, or AI-assisted feature may use your quota or balance. Each provider sets its own prices, retention, and limits. Check the provider dashboard and configure spending alerts when available.

04

Does Maestro show costs?

Maestro records cost estimates when the provider and model expose enough information. The provider invoice remains authoritative and may include exchange rates, taxes, rounding, or provider-specific policies.

05

What happens if OpenAI Batch processing fails?

A known instability can make an uploaded file temporarily unavailable to the Batch service. Maestro preserves the same file and retries safely with progressive delays, only after confirming that the previous batch executed zero requests.

If the instability persists and “Use direct processing if batch fails” is selected—as it is by default—Maestro completes the submission in direct mode. The provider may charge a different rate for that mode. Do not create another submission while the current one is waiting.

06

Can I work without sending documents?

Strictly local modules do not send content. Network-model features require an explicit action and send content only to the provider selected for that task.

07

Where are my keys stored?

In macOS Keychain or Windows Credential Manager. The interface receives only credential status and origin, never the complete stored value.
